video

My idea for this video project is to show what Fraternities are actually like. I want to show what fraternities are really like, because the stereo type of drinking and date rape is completely incorrect.
For the footage that I would shot I would shoot what we are actually like when we are just hanging out. I would shot use watching television and just hanging out with each other. Also since my room mate and I are in the same Fraternity I could shoot the room and show us doing our work. I would also like to get interviews with members of the fraternity and maybe an outsider’s look into our fraternity.
My intention with this video is to show that Alpha Sigma Phi does not fit into the stereotype of the TV Frat. I want to show that we actually are a group of close friends that help each other and contribute to the campus.
I was thinking of sequencing the shots so I could start with an interview and then cut to clips of what we are actually like. Also, I could add interviews with other members of the fraternity into the movie so that I could get different opinions of the fraternity while still cutting back in forth between the footage of the normal days of Alpha Sigma Phi. We have a community service project approaching within two weeks so I thought showing that would help also.
For audio it is still a bit unclear as to what kind of music would be a nice background to the shots. Also I thought of doing voice overs of the interviews while showing how the Fraternity benefits the campus and surrounding community.

John Baldessari created roughly shot black and white videos entitled I am making art. He filmed himself in a messy state dressed in white standing in front of a white brick wall where he would make discreet movements.

2) Name an artist mentioned who deals with PERSONAL NARRATIVE. Describe a work. (2 points)
Phyllis Baldino made a video called I am not the girl who misses much. She danced in front of the camera and repeated the title of the work.

3) Describe the piece you were most interested in viewing after reading this article. Look the work
up on the links, and expand on Rush's comments. (2 points)

I could not find the piece I was interested in so I searched through the videos and decide upon Joe Gibbons work.
His work seems to focus on himself and another object. He did many things with that seemed to involve childhood objects that can only be described as odd. It seems that much of it also is shaky and he talks to the camera as if it were a person. I liked Spring the most I found what he says is very interesting.

4) What do you better understand now about Video Art? (2 points)
There are many different types of video art and just about and thing shot on video can be a form of video art as long as it has a purpose. Most videos also have a lot of meaning to them.

5) Based on Rush and this article, what makes Video Art vs. an "artful video"? (2 points)
Video art has assumed the position of legitimacy, even prominence. Video art is carefully thought out and is appealing to younger artist. Artful video does not have meaning behind it and is just many interesting shots put together or is not well thought out.
